Program Description
Apollo 13 participants learn the practical, enlightening principles and skills that will help them improve their levels of teamwork. The program begins when each participant receives 8 color-coded wooden blocks that represent the Eight Building Blocks of Effective Teamwork. Participants discuss these 8 key elements and complete action exercises. Then they watch the complete "Apollo 13" movie, stopping numerous times to discuss the skills observed. After the movie, participants analyze how four leaders and three teams performed during the movie crisis. Next, participants apply the lessons learned to real-life teamwork issues. They use the building blocks to frame the discussion, and each member selects the one that would have the most dramatic effect on the team or leader. Finally, the team develops a specific action plan for implementing necessary change. Back on the job, participants use the building block cubes to continuously reinforce their newly learned teamwork strategies. The Eight Building Blocks of Effective Teamwork are Effective leadership, Unanimous commitment to a clear and common goal, Clearly defined roles and responsibilities, Effective, open communication, Consistent and united effort, Resources to do the job, Climate of trust, respect and mutual support, and Commitment to the team (vs. self).
